PING: transmit failed, error code 65 - ZoneAlarm effect

This article is about a usual ping request error " transmit failed, error code 65". This error is mainly shown in computers where ZoneAlarm is installed. When we ping to a neighbor computer or any other networking devices we will get the error code 65 and ping request will not complete. It would look like:

c:\ ping google.com

PING: transmit failed, error code 65
PING: transmit failed, error code 65
PING: transmit failed, error code 65
PING: transmit failed, error code 65



Conditions for ping transmit failed, error code 65




According to support.microsoft the major conditions for error 65 are:

1. The Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) feature is enabled
2. Firewall software from Zone Labs is installed on the computer.
3. The ZoneLabs firewall software is not correctly configured for ICS.


Troubleshooting steps for error 65



The major troubleshooting steps for transmit failed, error code 65 is:


1. Disable ZoneAlarm and check for the issue.

2. Disable the Startup type service

As a workaround, we can disable the unnecessary startup services and check for the issue.

3. Uninstall and reinstall ZoneAlarm product on your computer
