How to Convert D-Link Wireless Router into Bridge Mode?

Updated by: Alex George on March 12, 2025

Welcome to CoreNetworkZ Tech Solutions. Today, I will explain how to convert an ordinary D-Link router into a wireless bridge. I am writing this article based on my work experience with Robert, one of our clients, to extend his office network.

Do you know how to connect two different LANs in two adjacent buildings to connect via wireless?

It is the question Robert asked me when I met him at his new office building.

He purchased extra office space in a nearby building and wanted to connect the new office with his existing office. My answer was simple.

You require a wireless router in bridge mode to connect two LANs via WiFi.

He was okay with that, and my team connected the two offices with a D-Link Wireless Bridge.

This article is about steps to convert the D-Link Wireless Router into Bridge mode.

Let us check the Network Diagram.

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to configure the D-Link wireless router in bridge mode to communicate with another WiFi router and connect two LAN networks.

The network diagram is like this. One router is in Access Point or wireless router mode, but the second router is in bridge mode.

D-Link Router Bridge Mode

Patrick Scolari asked in the comment section about the differences between a bridge mode and a regular wireless router mode. I guess many readers might have the same question.

Let us check how to put a D-link router into bridge mode. How does it work differently from normal?

The D-link device in the bridge mode accepts a point to point communication only.

It is important to remember that once we change the D-Link router into bridge mode, it will not connect to other WiFi clients, and its Internet port also will be disabled.

Every device connected to the Ethernet ports of the D-link router will connect to the WiFi from the first router.

Steps to Configure D-Link Wireless Router in Bridge Mode

David Emerson asked whether to use an ordinary D-link router as a WiFi bridge. He asked this question in the comment section. Let me answer his question now.

The answer is yes. We can convert an ordinary D-link wireless router into a wireless bridge. I will explain it in this section.

How Do I Bridge My Dlink Router With ISP Modem?

Radhika Sivakumar asked a question in the comment section. She wanted to know if she could create a bridge connection between a modem and a WiFi router.

The answer is yes. The same technique will help you to make a WiFi peer-to-peer connection with the Dlink router and your ISP modem.

So even if your modem is in a different building, you can use the Internet on your building without worrying about the potential unauthorized connections in the first building.

The minimum requirement to create a bridge connection between the Dlink modem and router are:

The modem should have the WiFi feature and allow the bridge mode. Make sure your ISP supports this feature and is not a violation of the TOS.

Why Do I Need a Wireless Router Bridge?

Kurt Brown asked for the purpose of D'link Bridge Mode. He wanted to know why the interface had such an option. His doubt is genuine, but I consider the bridge feature helpful in extending a home office network.

This method helps you to connect two office networks in two different buildings via WiFi.

For example, if you own two offices in two adjacent buildings, you can connect both office networks by using a D-link router in wireless bridge mode.

Let me conclude this article. You have learned to convert an ordinary Dlink router into a wireless bridge. Let me know your feedback about this article in the comments below.

  4. Have you checked the wireless settings page of your d-link router ? Not all D-link wireless routers support wireless bridge / repeater mode. Have a look at the official D-link article given below.
